One thing's for sure: champions train and think on different levels from us mere mortals, and they all go about it in different ways. You'll find his training routine there as well.

"Red beans and rice - no problem, Serge, I can do this!"Ĭontains over 60 pages of Nubret answering questions about his training and diet philosophy, as well as addressing rumors about steroids, Weider, and the so-called "porn" film that seems to get so many up in arms (who've never seen it - we prefer our steroid freaks to star in violent films and then have no problem electing them governor! Serge, obviously, is too "suspiciously" French in preferring romance in film). Just had to share this - I find it to be a good fit for me, a 40-plusser who needs to be mindful of both my cardio-vascular health as well as the future of my joints and overall skeletal integrity.

For those of you who might look aghast at such a program or otherwise harbor concern for my poor, misguided soul, I have to say that I eagerly look forward to the next workout, even when walking home from my last workout - it's amazing what the mind can do. I'm giving this program a go now that the academic year is over and time permits the experiment. And I never eat breakfast - just coffee and gone. It's all about blood flow, muscle engagement and engorgement - leaving my ego at the door (which can be a challenge at a Pac-10 university gym!).īegan at 9:30 this morning, finished by 1pm.

Rest 1/2-1 hour between body parts, although it is as short as 15 min. Here is what my workout looked like today: I've let go of the eggs and feel all the better for it. I'm not eating horsemeat (!) but am eating the half-pound of rice and beans (dry weight before cooking) along with about a half-to a pound of chicken, beef, and/or fish/ day. I am amazed at how quickly I've gotten into better psychological and physical shape as a result of this training system. I agree with Serge's philosophy that training should have a built-in cardio component and that "conditioning" rather than "overtraining" should be one's mental positioning. True to my monikker "high volume" I am currently finishing my first month of Serge Nubret's (my hero)intermediate workout, something I wish I'd begun a few years ago.

I have never posted my routine before and think that now is as good a time as any. Dave's brilliant column this week prompted me to do this:
